Search by radical
If you want to look up a character that you can write but can't pronounce, or find all characters containing similar radical parts (e.g. metal "金" or tree "木"), you should try searching by radical.
It does require the ability to recognize which part of a character is the main radical. More often than not, the radical is the character part on top (人 as of 伞), to the left (日 as of 晓), or on the outside (口 as of 国), or - in some cases - merely the first stroke (一 as of 三).
1. Select a radical
First select the number of strokes of the radical
2. Select the character you are looking for
First select the number of strokes for the rest of the character
